Marcia K. Anderson, PhD, ATC, LAT

Dr. Marcia K. Anderson is a Professor in the Department of Movement Arts, Health Promotion & Leisure Studies at Bridgewater State College, and has served as the Program Director of the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) since 1981, with the exception of a brief hiatus during which time she served as the Department Chair. She teaches applied musculoskeletal anatomy and a variety of courses within the ATEP.

Dr. Anderson is probably best known nationally as the primary author of Foundations of Athletic Training: Prevention, Assessment, and Management, one of the leading textbooks in athletic training education. In addition to this book, she has also authored Fundamentals in Athletic Training and A Quick Reference Guide to Athletic Training, along with several chapters in related books, and professional articles. Dr. Anderson has been active with the NATA Board of Certification (BOC) since 1995 having served as a BOC Examiner and Model. In addition, she has served on the BOC Test Development Committee for over 10 years, having been the only individual to have served on all three subcommittees (written, practical, and written simulation). Most recently Dr. Anderson began working with an elite group of professionals to take the BOC exam to the next level - a fully computerized interactive assessment of entry-level athletic training skills and knowledge.

In January 2005, Dr. Anderson was inducted into the inaugural Athletic Trainers of Massachusetts (ATOM) Hall of Fame for her service to the state association and the athletic training profession. She is an active member of the NATA, EATA, ATOM, and MAHPERD. 

Prior to coming to Bridgewater in 1981, Dr. Anderson had extensive public school teaching and coaching experience at the elementary and secondary levels in Iowa. Her interests include hiking, kayaking, and woodworking.

Kathleen M. Laquale, PhD, ATC, LAT, LDN

Dr. Kathleen Laquale is an Associate Professor in the Department of Movement Arts, Health Promotion Leisure Studies. She served as the Program Director for the ATEP from the fall, 1998 to the spring, 2006 and specializes in teaching assessment of sports related injuries, administration in athletic training, and sports nutrition for the physically active.

Prior to coming to BSC, she served as the Head Athletic Trainer at Rhode Island College (1984-1997) and Head Women’s Athletic Trainer at Providence College (1977-1984). She was an adjunct professor at Rhode Island College for the physical education department (1984-1997) and at the University of Rhode Island for the Department of Food Science and Nutrition (1993-1996).

Dr. Laquale is a well-published author in sports nutrition, dietary practices of collegiate wrestlers, ergogenic aids and nutritional supplements, medical issues of the female athlete, flexibility and stretching strategies. She has provided various lectures at numerous district, national and international workshops, conferences and symposia. She is the Column Editor on Nutrition for Athletic Therapy Today.

Dr. Laquale is a member of the NATA Hall of Fame (2005) and past District One Director to the NATA Executive Board of Directors (1998-2004). 

Robert Colandreo, ATC, LAT, CSCS

Dr. Robert Colandreo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Movement Arts, Health Promotion & Leisure Studies, and the Clinical Coordinator for the ATEP. He specializes in teaching therapeutic exercise and modalities as well as several of the clinical experience courses. He serves as the faculty advisor to the Athletic Training Club.

Prior to joining the faculty at BSC, Dr. Colandreo was an Assistant Clinical Athletic Trainer for the Athletics Department. Before returning to BSC, he taught at Matignon High School in Cambridge, MA where he also served as Head Athletic Trainer. He continues to provide game coverage for their football and hockey programs and is also clinically active with the New England Pro-Am Hockey League and the Walpole Express junior hockey program. His extensive clinical experience has included work with the New England Patriots, Bay State Games, and summer sport camps at Babson College, Hillsdale College, and other various programs in the Boston area.

Dr. Colandreo is responsible for direction and supervising the clinical experiences for all athletic training students. He coordinates Approved Clinical Instructor workshops for our clinical instructors on an annual basis. He has presented on the topics of manual therapy, massage, and acute injury management in contact sports. Bob is an active member of NATA, EATA, ATOM, APTA, and NSCA.

Rollene J. Howard, M.ED, BS

Rollene Howard is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Movement Arts, Health Promotion, and Leisure studies since 1992. She specializes in teaching aquatics including lifeguard training, emergency medical response, and first response particular to sports injury. She assisted with the development of the Sports First Aid course which is an introductory athletic training course and her primary teaching responsibility in the Athletic Training Education Program. Within the MAHPLS department, she also serves as a field supervisor for student teachers in physical education. She is delighted to have come full circle at BSC, as a student and currently as a member of the faculty.

Prior to coming to BSC, Rollene Howard was a physical education teacher, coach, and intramural sports director in the Silver Lake Regional school system, Kingston, MA. (1972-1981). She also served as a per diem instructor for the American Red Cross teaching CPR and first aid in schools, workplaces, and medical offices (1991-1996) and worked as a volunteer educator for Cranberry Area Hospice, Plymouth, MA. (1995-1997). Since 1991, she has conducted a swimming program during the summer months for ages 3 - adult.
