Goals

  • To build an environment where equity and diversity are truly valued beyond verbal commitments and mere tolerance.

  • To create a campus climate where the principles of affirmative action, equal opportunity and diversity are an integral part of campus life.

  • To develop a learning, working and living environment for students, employees and other members of the College Community which values the diverse backgrounds of all people.

  • To establish a set of programmatic objectives which provide for the access and advancement of persons of color, women, and persons with disabilities with respect to employment and enrollment opportunities.

  • To educate the College community on affirmative action, equal opportunity and diversity principles.

 

Strategies

  • Seek to eliminate all discrimination within the College community.

  • Develop and coordinate affirmative action and equal opportunity policies and procedures.

  • Promote equity within the College.

  • Handle complaints of discrimination and harassment involving faculty, staff, and students.

  • Provide training in affirmative action and equal opportunity employment including sexual harassment, diversity, and equity issues.

 

Strategies for Expanding the Pool of Candidates

  • Monitor progress in meeting the College’s affirmative action, equal opportunity and diversity commitments.

  • Serve as a resource center for the College on AA/EO issues.

  • Communicate information regarding laws, regulations, and policies in the realm of affirmative action and equal opportunity to members of the College campus.

  • Assist in identification of problem areas with respect to the Massachusetts State Plan for Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity/Diversity and make recommendations for remedial actions.
