Many department faculty members engage in research and the department encourages student-faculty collaborative research. Students may also carry out internships. The public archaeology concentration requires that students participate in field work or laboratory work, and the department offers a summer archaeological field school.
The department provides a strong liberal arts curriculum aimed at developing
