Dr. Marcia K.
Anderson is a Professor in the Department of Movement Arts, Health Promotion
& Leisure Studies at BSU, and has served as the Program Director of the
Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) since 1981, with the exception of
an eight year hiatus during which time she served as the Department Chair.
She teaches applied musculoskeletal anatomy and a variety of courses within
the graduate entry-level ATEP. Dr. Anderson is
best known nationally as the primary author of Foundations of Athletic
Training: Prevention, Assessment, and Management, one of the leading
textbooks in athletic training education. She has also authored
Fundamentals in Athletic Training and A Quick Reference Guide to
Athletic Training, along with several chapters in related books, and
professional articles. Dr. Anderson has been active with the NATA Board of
Certification (BOC) since 1995 having served as a BOC Examiner and Model, on
the BOC Test Development Committee for over 10 years, and currently is
President of the BOC Board of Directors. In January
2005, Dr. Anderson was inducted into the inaugural Athletic Trainers of
Massachusetts (ATOM) Hall of Fame for her service to the state association
and has been honored by the National Athletic Trainers Association with the
Athletic Training Service Award, Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award, and in
2011, was inducted into the NATA Hall of Fame. Prior to coming
to Bridgewater in 1981, Dr. Anderson had extensive public school teaching and
coaching experience at the elementary and secondary levels in Iowa. Her
interests include hiking, kayaking, and woodworking. |

Dr. Laquale is a well-published author in
sports nutrition, dietary practices of collegiate wrestlers, ergogenic aids and nutritional supplements, medical
issues of the female athlete, flexibility and stretching strategies. She has
provided various lectures at numerous district, national and international
workshops, conferences and symposia. She is the past associate editor for the
International Journal of Athletic
Therapy & Training. In
addition, Dr. Laquale was involved with the
composition of two NATA Position Papers:
Safe Weight Loss and Maintenance Practices in Sport and Exercise (June 2011) and Evaluation
of Dietary Supplements for Performance Nutrition (June, 2012). Dr. Laquale was an adjunct professor at Rhode Island College
for the physical education department (1984-1997) and at the University of
Rhode Island for the Department of Food Science and Nutrition (1993-1996).
While at BSU, she served as the Program Director for eight years and specialized
in teaching assessment of sports related injuries, administration in athletic
training, and sports nutrition for the physically active. She currently teaches a variety of
nutrition courses and has created a nutrition minor which will benefit
students majoring in athletic training. Prior to coming
to BSU, she served as the Head Athletic Trainer at Rhode Island College
(1984-1997) and Head Womens Athletic Trainer at Providence College
(1977-1984). She was an adjunct professor at Rhode Island College for the
physical education department (1984-1997) and at the University of Rhode
Island for the Department of Food Science and Nutrition (1993-1996). Dr. Laquale has served as past District One Director to the
NATA Executive Board of Directors (1998-2004), EATA secretary/treasurer
(1996-1998) and has been honored by the NATA with the Athletic Training
Service Award, Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award, and in 2005, was
inducted into the NATA Hall of Fame. She also was inducted into the RIATA
(inaugural) Hall of Fame in 2006 and in 2007 the District One Athletic
Trainers Scholarship was named in her honor |

Dr. Colandreo
serves as the ATEP Clinical Coordinator and is responsible for overseeing the
affiliated clinical sites and clinical supervisors, coordinates the annual Approved
Clinical Instructor workshops, and is the faculty advisor to the Athletic
Training Club. Prior to joining the faculty at BSU, Dr. Colandreo was an
Assistant Clinical Athletic Trainer for the BSU Athletics Department. Before coming
to BSU, he taught at Matignon High School in
Cambridge, MA and served as the Head Athletic Trainer. He continues to
provide per diem coverage for the Matignon football
and hockey programs, the New England Pro-Am Hockey League, and the Walpole
Express junior hockey program. His extensive clinical experience has included
work with the New England Patriots, Bay State Games, and summer sport camps
at Babson College, Hillsdale College, and other various programs in the
Boston area. He has numerous
professional presentations on the topics of manual therapy, massage, and
acute injury management in contact sports. Bob is an active member of NATA,
EATA, ATOM, APTA, and NSCA. |

Prior to joining the faculty at
Bridgewater, Dr. Maurer-Starks was on faculty at Northeastern University. She
has served as the Program Director of Hofstra
University's Athletic Training Education Program. She has been a practicing athletic
trainer and has worked with a variety of intercollegiate athletic teams. Suanne
has served on the Medical Staff for the World Games for the Deaf, and has
traveled to two International Games, including Sofia, Bulgaria, and
Copenhagen, Denmark. At BSU, she teaches predominately in
athletic training. Dr. Maurer-Starks has spoken at district and national
conferences, including the Eastern Athletic Trainer's Association annual
meeting; the National Athletic Trainer's annual meeting and the American
Alliance for Physical Education, Recreation and Dance's annual meeting.
She is active in the Athletic Training profession and has been a test site
Administrator and currently serves on the Thomas Sheehan Scholarship
Selection Committee. Her current research efforts revolve around
athletic training pedagogy and issues surrounding diversity within the
profession of athletic training. |

Suzanne
Bornschein is a board certified Internal Medicine
physician who serves as the Medical Director for the ATEP and the BSU Health
Services. With the ATEP, she provides extensive clinical education in medical
history taking and the assessment and management of general medical conditions
and disabilities. For the past ten years as a family practitioner, she has worked
predominantly with a college age population, but also as a community health
clinic provider. She enjoys providing care for university students and has
been involved with teaching students and residents her entire career. She
received her medical degree and training at University of Miami/ Jackson
Memorial Hospital. Areas of interest include: eating disorders, food allergies
and dysmenorrhea. |

Dr. Victoria L. Bacon is a professor in the Department of
Counselor Education at Bridgewater State University where she prepares school
guidance and mental health counselors. She is a Licensed Psychologist with
more than 30 years experience as a mental health professional having worked
in a variety of health care settings: schools, colleges, mental health
clinics and hospitals. Dr. Bacon has been involved in interdisciplinary
education efforts, teaching about psycho-social-emotional issues to
undergraduate and graduate students in the allied health care professions:
athletic training, physical therapy, and nutrition. Scholarship activities
include research publications on addiction, group interventions, and critical
incident stress debriefing. More recently she has co-authored two book
chapters: Psychological Factors in Rehabilitation and Psychosocial
Intervention and Patient Care. Dr. Bacon is a member of the American
Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association |

Professor
Howard specializes in teaching aquatics including lifeguard training,
emergency medical response, and first response particular to sports related injuries.
She assisted with the development of the Sports First Aid course which is an
introductory athletic training course and her primary teaching responsibility
in the Athletic Training Education Program. Within the MAHPLS department, she
also serves as a field supervisor for student teachers in physical education.
She is delighted to have come full circle at BSU, as a student and currently
as a member of the faculty. Prior to coming
to BSU, Rollene Howard was a physical education teacher, coach, and
intramural sports director in the Silver Lake Regional school system,
Kingston, MA. (1972-1981). She also served as a per diem instructor for the
American Red Cross teaching CPR and first aid in schools, workplaces, and
medical offices (1991-1996) and worked as a volunteer educator for Cranberry
Area Hospice, Plymouth, MA. (1995-1997). From 1991-2009, she conducted a swimming
program during the summer months for ages 3 - adult. Rollene Howard
is a member of MAHPERD and the recipient of ht 2010-2011 Presidential Award
for Distinguished Adjunct Teaching at Bridgewater State University. |

Dr. Leone is primarily responsible for teaching the Medical
Conditions class and Pharmacology for the Physically Active as part of both
the undergraduate and graduate ATEP. Prior to joining BSU, Dr. Leone held faculty appointments at The
George Washington University, Northeastern University, and Southern Illinois
University Carbondale. He served as Clinical Education Coordinator and
Program Director in the undergraduate athletic training education program at
SIUC, head athletic trainer, and strength and conditioning specialist at
several high schools in Massachusetts, Illinois, and Kentucky. He has
published numerous peer-reviewed articles in well-known journals such as the Journal
of Athletic Training, Journal of School Health, Journal of
Strength and Conditioning Research, Body Image: An International
Journal of Research, Athletic Training Education Journal, and the Strength
and Conditioning Journal among others. |

Within the graduate entry-level ATEP,
Dr. Rosenthal teaches the ATTR 511/PHED 511 Research class. Having studied
sociology of sport under Dr. Mary Jo Kane at the University of Minnesota and
working with the Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport, she
joined the BSU faculty in 2005. She previously taught at Castleton State
College in Vermont. Within MAHPLS, her area of expertise is sociology of
sport and her dissertation work was on women's ice hockey. Dr. Rosenthal's
current research interests include media coverage of female Olympians and
leadership through experiential education. She was a collegiate soccer player
and is currently an avid ice hockey player and hiker. |

Kimberly Ashton Wise is
presently the Coordinator of Clinical Education at Northeastern University.
She has 13 years of college-level teaching experience, and holds current
professional credentials as a board certified substitute teacher from the
Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. As a practicing
athletic trainer, Kimberly has worked with a variety of intercollegiate
athletic teams, volunteered as a medical provider for multiple organizations,
and served as a test site administrator. At BSU, she teaches
predominately in athletic training. Kimberly has spoken at district and
national conferences, including the Eastern Athletic Trainer's Association
annual meeting; the National Athletic Trainer's annual meeting, American
College of Sports Medicine annual meeting, and the American Alliance for
Physical Education, Recreation and Dance's annual meeting.
Her current research efforts revolve around Grounded Theory, Sense Making,
and Higher Education Adult Andragogy. |
