Jeanne O'Brien, M.S., L.A.T,C. Head Athletic Trainer Jeanne was named Head Athletic Trainer at Bridgewater State College in August of 2005. She has 20 years experience as an NATA-BOC Certified Athletic Trainer which includes extensive experience in intercollegiate athletics, as well as, Athletic Training Education. She is a two time graduate of Springfield College (MA) where she received her Bachelors degree in Health/Fitness and Athletic Training in 1986 and a Master's Degree in Sports Injury Prevention and Management in 1992. Her professional experience includes Assistant Athletic Trainer and Instructor at East Carolina University (NC), Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Professor at Springfield College (MA), Outreach Athletic Trainer for Plymouth (MA) South High School, as well as, Coordinator of Medical Coverage for various athletic events such as the Massachusetts Senior Games, Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-off Classic, NCAA Division III Basketball championships, Massachusetts High School Football Championships, NCAA Division I Men's Volleyball Championship and for the International Field Hockey Association. She has provided Sports Medicine services to the US Wheelchair Men's Basketball team, the participants in the 2000 Boston Marathon and various youth sport events. Jeanne has taught in-services and seminars regarding risk management in athletics, medical concerns for the geriatric athlete, management of head & neck injuries in athletics, on field management of protective equipment in the critically injured athlete, concussion management in athletics, medical clearance for the intercollegiate athlete, youth sport coaches education and stress management techniques. Courses taught in four different Athletic Training Education Programs include Sports First Aid, Intro to Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries, Advanced Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries, Athletic Training Organization and Administration, Therapeutic Modalities, Intro to Athletic Training Skills, Foundations of Sports Injuries and Upper Extremity Foundations. |

Melissa Ryan, ATC, LAT Assistant Athletic Trainer Melissa is the most recent addition to the Bridgewater State College Sports Medicine Team. In 1999 Melissa graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Athletic Training from Springfield College. In the BSC Sports Medicine/Athletic Training Department Melissa is utilizing her skills and experience as a physical rehabilitation clinician by serving as the coordinator of Athletic Injury Rehabilitation. She has served as an Athletic Trainer at Mansfield High School through Morton Hospital Rebound Sports Medicine and at Foxborough High School through Caritas Norwood Hospital. In 2003 she became the Coordinator of First Five Rehabilitative Strength and Conditioning Program for spinal cord injured patients. Melissa's additional experience includes medical coverage for the Boston Marathon in 2003 and 2004, an Athletic Trainer for the 2006 Shriner's South Football game, the 2006 Pro-Am Pre-Draft Ice Hockey Tournament, the 2006 Jr. Chowder Cup Ice Hockey Tournament, the 2005 MIAA high school Superbowl, the 2005 MIAA south sectional Wrestling tournament and the MSFHA summer league from 2003 to 2005. In 2001 Melissa was a long term substitute Psychology teacher for Mansfield High School and in 2002 she taught Health. She currently provides medical coverage for the Walpole Express jr. the Foxboro Stars Ice Hockey leagues. |
