Beautification and Landscape Committee

Mission

Established in 1993, the Campus Beautification and Landscape Committee is responsible for:

  • Actively assessing the physical appearance of the campus and recommending to the president improvements to beautify the grounds and improve the quality of landscaping;
  • Reviewing all proposals for changes to campus grounds and landscaping, including signs, banners, plantings, and any proposed changes to the physical appearance of the campus;
  • Monitoring landscape maintenance;
  • Developing a long-range beautification and landscaping plan.

History

Dr. Adrian Tinsley, the college's tenth president, convened Campus Beautification and Landscape Committee early in her tenure and appointed Dr. Wayne Phillips its first chair. Now retired from the college, Dr. Phillips continues to coordinate the work of the committee and to advance its ongoing mission of surrounding BSC students, faculty and employees with an idyllic learning environment. Other founding members of the committee included President Dana Mohler-Faria, Professor William Kendall and Dr. William Smith. Over the years, other faculty and staff have joined the Campus Beautification and Landscape Committee.
