The Next Chapter

Recipient of eight honourary doctorates and winner of the prestigious Beaverbrook scholarship, Frank McKenna completed his post-graduate studies in political science at Queen's University before graduating from the University of New Brunswick Law School as a silver medalist.

Frank's legal reputation and business acumen propelled him into politics at an early age. He became a Member of the Legislative Assembly in 1982 and leader of his party in 1985. In a spectacular turn around in political fortunes and after 17 years in opposition, he led his party to power in 1987, making political history by winning all 58 seats in the provincial legislature.

His tenure as Premier of the Province of New Brunswick resulted in acclaim for his leadership on a number of fronts. New Brunswick became one of Canada's first provinces to turn its fiscal situation around, improve its credit rating, and start producing a steady series of balanced budgets. Literacy reforms introduced under Frank’s leadership proved so successful that New Brunswick garnered international recognition for its innovation.

Posted to Washington, D.C., Frank served as the Canadian Ambassador to the United States of America from 2005 to 2006.

Frank was appointed Deputy Chair of TD Bank Financial Group on May 1, 2006. He is responsible for supporting the Bank in its customer acquisition strategy, particularly in the area of Wholesale and Commercial banking. In addition, he is responsible for representing TD as it works to expand its North American presence as one of the ten largest banks as measured by market capitalization.
