    Literacy assessment and instruction. As consumers of research, teachers develop the strategies with which a literacy educator gains knowledge about the processes of listening, speaking, reading, writing, thinking and learning. Candidates explore numerous research traditions and methods, including ethnographic, descriptive, correlational, experimental, and multivariate. Candidates develop a fundamental understanding of the methodology, data collection procedures, and analysis techniques that are central to a range of literacy research, assessment, and instruction perspectives and policy work.
