The major programs of the Community Service Center focus on three primary areas: addressing the Basic Needs of individuals such as food, shelter and clothing; connecting People to People with opportunities to work with children, teens, adults and the elderly; and developing hands-on projects that focus on the sustainability of our planet and demonstrate that our Earth Matters. Some of our major programs focus solely on one area, yet many of our programs address a combination of these primary focus areas.

The Community Service Center encourages the members of the Bridgewater State College community to become life-long active citizens in our regional, national and global communities.


The mission of the Community Service Center at Bridgewater State College is to provide students with a variety of volunteer and community service opportunities in the Southeastern Massachusetts area and beyond. By participating in community service, Bridgewater students will realize their potential to positively impact the lives of others.

The goals and outcomes associated with this mission are as follows:

  • To promote a culture of civic engagement and responsibility at the College
  • To develop and promote community service opportunities that address societal issues
  • To provide meaningful community service opportunities that will extend student learning inside and outside of the classroom
  • To establish a mutually beneficial partnership for both student and community members that meets the needs of the community members at large.

Financial Literacy and Giving Program (FLAG)

Experiential Learning Symposia
April 21, 9am-12pm, Moakley Center
The Experiential Learning Symposia gives BSC students the opportunity to showcase and feature their experiential learning experience outside of the traditional classroom to the entire BSC community. These experiences can be in the form of an internship, community service, service learning, study abroad and/or leadership and may take place on or off campus. Check out a scholarship opportunity for those who've participated in community service: President's Award for Community Service! This award honors a current student who has demonstrated a dedication to community involvement and volunteer service and through this involvement leads by example to motivate others to make a difference in their community as well.
