The Joint Degree Program

Bachelor of Science/Master of Science in Criminal Justice

The Criminal Justice program offers undergraduate students an opportunity to earn both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in criminal justice with an additional year of full-time study. This joint degree program is a 154 credit program that leads to both a B.S. and a M.S. degree in Criminal Justice. The program is consistent with the dual mission of Bridgewater State College to educate the residents of southeastern Massachusetts and the Commonwealth and to use the College's intellectual, scientific, and technological resources to support and advance the well-being of the region and the state. Specifically, the program educates students about the dynamics of crime, criminal behavior, the criminal justice system and how these complex factors interact in recursive relationships with social institutions and public realities.

  Admission/Eligibility requirements:

A Criminal Justice major may apply to the joint degree program once the student has earned at least 66 credits. If accepted into the program, graduate classes must begin once the student has earned at least 84 credits but not more than 105 credits. The Criminal Justice Department waives the GRE requirement for the Criminal Justice Joint Degree Program applicants.

The following are required to be accepted into the program:

1. Students must have achieved an overall BSU-earned GPA of 3.0.

2. Three appropriate letters of recommendation, two of which must come from full-time BSU Criminal Justice faculty.

In order to continue in the Joint Degree program after matriculation, students must continue to maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
