The David A. Sousa '60 Faculty Research and Development Fund Application for Award

David A. Sousa '60 has endowed a fund to support the research, publication and or professional development expenses of a faculty member in the area of neuroscience and its application to pedagogical theory. The award for 2010-2011 will be $1,825.

Application process: Faculty interested in applying for the Sousa Award should submit a proposal to the appropriate school dean or director of libraries. The proposal should be submitted using the following format:

  • Name of applicant(s)
  • Title of project
  • Description of project, including how the funds will be used to benefit the faculty member's professional growth
  • Project budget
  • Project timeline
  • Faculty vita (with specific information demonstrating qualifications in the area of neuroscience and pedagogy)

Application deadline: Faculty should submit applications by February 4, 2011. Work can begin as early as summer of that year.  A committee consisting of the four school deans, the Director of Library Services, the CART coordinators, previous year's Presidential Fellow(s), the Executive Assistant to the President, and the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs will make a recommendation to the President and Provost.

Project completion: Faculty receiving funds from the Sousa Fund must submit a written project report by the deadline stated in the project timeline.
