Project Invention Convention VII Brochure 2011

Project Invention Convention VII

Entry Components

Invention:

The invention itself must be related to Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Math.  The students may have help from their teacher or expert in the field of their invention, however, students are expected to come up with the idea and build the product on their own for the most part.
-  Please complete the online submission form, Team Teacher General Information; and
-  send your invention idea(s)  to my office no later than December 10, 2010.

Journal:

The students are asked to keep an ongoing journal throughout the invention process.  The journal can be very informal and does not need to be typed. Pictures, drawings, sketch, etc. during the thinking and building process should be included.  The idea of the journal is to look at the steps you took toward your final invention project.  There is no limit for pages of the journal; it's up to you!

Time Log:

Teachers are asked to keep a time log throughout the process.  There is no specific format; what we are looking for is the number of days you spent per week and how many hours you met.  For example if you meet every Wednesday from 2:00-4:00, then simply put the date and number of hours you spent.  An Excel spreadsheet works great for this.

Description
:

Each team must prepare a written description of its invention.  The description may be a combination of text and artwork.  Included in the description is the name of the invention and its function.

Web Page Graphics

  • The preferred graphics are to be in the form of a Power Point presentation.  If your team does not have access to Power Point, then please prepare the drawings and descriptions of the invention on 8 .5 x 11 paper.
  • Pictures of the invention process may be inserted into the power point presentation.
  • There is no limit to the number of pages, however, keep in mind that each presentation will have a minimum amount of time to present; usually 10 minutes.

Student Reflection Paper:

The students are required to write a 3-5 page reflection paper after the Invention Convention.  The paper must be typed, double space with a 12 pitch font.  The reflection paper is simply written about their overall experience with the Invention Convention.  It is suggested that they look back at their journals to "jog" their memories of any experiences that stand out during the process.  Students are encouraged to be honest with their reflections as we look carefully at the papers to determine what changes, if any, need to be made for the next Invention Convention.

Time Line:

The date for the Invention Convention is Wednesday, June 8, 2011, 8:30-3:00,  registration begins at 8:00 a.m.
