Having grown up in Iowa, I found myself coming to Bridgewater State College in June of 1981 as a rookie college instructor in the Physical Education Department and Director of the Athletic Training Education Program. During my first year, I longed for the open country side of the Midwest, having done my graduate degrees at Indiana University and the University of Iowa. In southeastern Massachusetts, road signs were all that indicated that you had just left one community and were now entering another. Despite this, I felt so welcomed on the campus. Several colleagues introduced me into the college community and got me involved with the faculty union (MSCA). What a wonderful eye opening experience that benefits every faculty member. |
Having served on the Executive Board of the MSCA, and as a former vice president and grievance officer I have advocated for faculty working conditions for over 25 years. Ive chaired the promotions committee, served as a department chair (now a recovering chair), and a member of the All College Committee, Academic Policies Committee, and the Presidents Council on the Status of Women. My scholarship includes over a dozen books, manuals, and chapters; several published articles, and nearly fifty presentations on the regional, national, and international levels. I serve my profession as a Board of Directors member of the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification, and have been recognized with the national Athletic Training Service Award and Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award.
When I am not absorbed in my teaching, scholarship, and service to the college community, I love to spend time in my wood shop doing home renovations and working in my garden. I welcome the opportunity to serve as your advocate to help your years here at Bridgewater State College to be successful and enjoyable.
