Faculty Advocate Profile

Pamela J. Russell, Ph.D.

I am currently the Director of the Faculty Advocacy Network, a campus initiative that I co-founded during my work as CART Research Fellow from the fall of 2006 through the spring of 2008. When I came to BSC in 1997 from a Physical Therapy Department at the University of Maryland-Baltimore, I searched for mentoring and supportive professional relationships within and external to my department. My previous professional work had included numerous adjunct positions, but this was my first full-time tenure track position. I was concerned about how to manage professional demands, successfully progress towards tenure, parent my (at-the-time) two-year old, and find some small slice of the day for myself. With the support and guidance of colleagues at BSC and within the New England region, I learned to make professional progress and develop as a faculty member.

My passion for FAN originated because I remember how difficult it was to find my way towards healthy professional growth and development. I now wish to help others grow in their role as faculty members at BSC.

My academic background includes a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education-Teacher Certification from the University of New Hampshire, a Master's Degree from Washington State University, and a Doctorate in Biomechanics from the University of Maryland-College Park. I currently teach sports biomechanics and applied functional anatomy to undergraduates. On the graduate level, I have taught research, statistics, and biomechanics. I truly enjoy teaching and learning from BSC students. I also have a passion for my research into sports injury mechanisms for which I have received both internal and external funding support. My most recent publications are in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise and the Journal of Athletic Training. I also have experience with numerous regional, national, and international presentations and service to professional organizations at each of these levels. When not engaged in my professional activities, I enjoy parenting and walking my chocolate lab. I am also an avid cyclist, runner, and hiker.
