I am currently an associate professor of
sociology and co-coordinator of the Center for Advancement of Research
and Teaching. I was research fellow between 2004 and 2006. I had three
previous full time teaching jobs before coming to BSC, and was very
grateful to receive tenure here in 2006. I have been on this campus
since 2003.
I hope to be able to assist faculty to make the transition to this campus in a smooth way, and to have fewer challenges as they discover ways to thrive here. I am very concerned about the following issues: (1) equity and fairness in the treatment of faculty, (2) work-life balance in the management of teaching, advising, research, and service. |
I like to think of myself as a fairly successful teacher-scholar. I have had two books and a number of articles, chapters, and book reviews published. Most of these have been on aspects of medical sociology and criminology. A few have dealt with issues of crime and fraud in medicine, itself. I usually teach in areas related to deviance and crime, demography, and international development. I enjoy teaching first year seminars. I do yoga and tai chi, and have been a student of martial arts for eleven years, studying aikido and karate.
