Capital Projects (New Construction and Renovations) - Current & Future


Boyden Hall 2nd Floor Office Renovations

Designer:  LDa Architects, LLP

General Contractor:  Federal Construction Corp.

Description:  This multi-phased project includes the renovation of second floor spaces in Boyden Hall for the Executive Vice President and Vice President for the Office of External Affairs and the Vice President for the Office of University Advancement and their support staff.

Status:  The first phase of this project to renovate the Executive Vice President and Vice President's Office of External Affairs and his support staff was completed on August 24, 2012.   The second phase of this project to renovate the Vice President's Office of University Advancement and his support staff is currently under construction and is expected to be complete by late October 2012.

Central Steam Plant Conversion

Designer:  Turowski2 Architecture, Inc.

General Contractor:  TBD

Description:  This project involves converting the existing original 1964 #6 oil boilers to natural gas boilers. 

Status:  The new boilers have been pre-purchased.  The installation of these new boilers are expected to go out to bid before the beginning of October 2012.  Installation of boilers and associated equipment and conversion to natural gas to be operational by January 31, 2013.


Central Steam Plant Window Replacement

Designer:  DiNisco Design

General Contractor:  GVW. Inc.

Description:  The scope of this project includes new windows and roll-up doors, brick repairs and painting to improve the exterior envelope of the Central Steam Plant and complement the addition and the new Science and Mathematics Center.    

Status:  This project is expected to be complete by the middle of March 2013.


College of Graduate Studies Building

Designer:  William Starck Architects, Inc.

General Contractor:  TBD

Description:  A new 6,800 square-foot facility to be constructed in the area behind St. Basil's Chapel and adjacent to the Underpass.  The building will be the new home for the University's College of Graduate Studies Dean and staff.

Status:  This project is currently in the design phase.

Human Resources Renovation, Boyden Hall

Designer:  LDa Architects, LLP

General Contractor:  TBD

Description:  This project will include wall reconfiguration, new HVAC, electric and telecomm, new furniture, carpeting and finishes.

Status:  Construction to start towards the end of this year and is expected to be complete in the Spring of 2013.


Improvements to Great Hill Drive - Plymouth Street Intersection

Engineer:  Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc.

General Contractor:  TBD

Description:  This project includes re-alignment of the Great Hill Drive and Plymouth Street intersection; including, turning lanes and a new signal.

Status:  This project is currently in the design phase.


Institute for Social Justice/Community Service Center Renovation

Designer:  Johnson Roberts Associates, Inc.

General Contractor:  TBD

New Academic Building

Designer:  TBD

Description:  As part of the statewide master planning process for Massachusetts Higher Education, a new academic building is identified as a priority for the BSU campus. 

Status:  N/A


New Welcome Center - Admissions and Financial Aid

Designer:  Perry Dean Rogers

General Contractor:  TBD

Description:  A new 15,000 square-foot facility to be constructed on Plymouth Street, adjacent to the International Scholars' Residence.  This building will house the Undergraduate, Graduate, and Transfer Admissions and the University's Financial Aid Office.

Status:  This project is currently in the design phase.  Construction is planned for 2013.


Rondileau Campus Center Main Entrance Renovation

Designer:  Civitects, P.C.

General Contractor:  TBD

Description: This project to include a new at-grande entrance with planting beds, seating, new storefront entry, reconfiguration of the main lobby areas and stairwells on all three floors, improvements to the rear entry, and all related site utilities.   

Status:  This project is currently in the design phase.  Construction is planned for summer 2013.


Weygand Residence Hall and Health & Counseling Center

Designer:  Perkins + Will Architects

General Contractor:  Bond Brothers, Inc.

Description:   A new 168,000 GSF, 500-bed residence hall will be located adjacent to Crimson Hall and the new Parking Garage on East Campus.  The focus of the residential programming is on creating unique living/learning communities within the building.  The building will be L.E.E.D. certified and will include many of the same energy conservation systems of our other L.E.E.D. buildings.  The building will include space for the health and counseling functions presently housed in Tillinghast Hall, along with a guest suite, and four multi-purpose rooms.

Status:  Currently under construction.  Construction fencing and temporary walkways for pedestrian circulation around the construction site are in place.  This project continues to be on a very aggressive construction schedule.  Our construction manager, Bond Brothers, anticipates working long days and Saturdays as needed for the duration of the project.  Construction will be complete for Fall 2013 use and occupancy.
