Intergroup RAPsodies

Intergroup RAPsodies is a new program born out of the GLBTA Pride Center, Center for Multicultural Affairs, Disability Services, and the Office of Institutional Diversity. Take advantage of this opportunity to join with students from diverse backgrounds who have experienced what it is like to be outside the majority.

We all have different cultures, ages, ethnicities, skin colors, sexual orientations, physical and mental abilities, gender identities, sexes, and religions, and whether you are usually in the majority or minority, this is an opportunity to learn from each other.  In a safe and affirming environment, we will explore questions like:

  • "When were you aware that you could be treated differently based on things like your race, sex, ability, or sexual orientation?"
  • "Have you ever held yourself back because you expected discriminatory treatment?"
  • "What can we accomplish together that can't be done if we remain apart or unfamiliar with those who are different from us?"

When Will We Meet?

Wednesday, March 31, 5pm - 7 pm. East Campus Commons, room 112
Wednesday, April 7, 5pm - 7pm. Dunn Conference, room B
Wednesday, April 14, 5pm - 7pm. East Campus Commons, room 112

Dinner will be served promptly at 5pm

We request that you commit to all three meetings not only because discussions will build upon each other, but also because one of our goals is building an inclusive community together. We hope that you will get to know each other and form lifelong friendships.

W
hat Will We Talk About?
March 31 provides an introduction to the program and each other with an overview of what social justice is and the characteristics and kinds of oppression that exist.
April 7 is when we'll explore BSC students' personal experiences with power and privilege on and off campus.
April 14 we'll discuss specific steps we can take to build a more socially just community.

If you have any questions please contact Lisa Forest, Coordinator of the GLBTA Pride Center at Lisa.Forest@bridgew.edu or 508.531.1408. We look forward to learning with you!
