Counseling and Health Services
Counseling and Health Services provide safe and affirming care to ALL their patients and are committed to excellent care for GLBT students. Check out these 10 things that transgender people should discuss with their health care providers.

Hormones and surgery for transgender students: Hormone prescriptions are available through Health Services and are covered by student insurance. Sex reassignment/Gender realignment surgery is not covered under the student health insurance plan.

The Office of Residence Life and Housing
The Office of Residence Life and Housing offers gender-neutral housing. Efforts are directed towards establishing a community where there is an appreciation of diversity and a respect for individual rights.  There is a process in place for students to request special accommodations based on medical or psychological needs.  The senior director of Health and Counseling works with each request individually to plan a housing accommodation that will best meet the student's specific needs.  This may include a single room with a private bath, selected roommates or certain areas on campus.  Sophomores, juniors and seniors may also select to live in designated gender neutral suites or apartments with shared bathrooms. For details, please contact the Office of Residence Life and Housing, or contact the GLBT Coordinator, Lisa Forest, of the GLBTA Pride Center.

The Registrar's Office
The Registrar's Office will change the legal name and legal gender designation in student records for students or alumni due to a gender transition (proper documentation required).

Preferred Name
BSU has recently adopted the policy to allow students to indicate a preferred name wherever legal name is not required in certain places.

Single Occupant Restrooms (SOR)
Currently, BSU has 28 gender neutral single occupancy restrooms (GN SORs).  Additionally, BSU is committed to placing at least one GN SOR in every new and renovated building.  You can download a list of GN SORs on campus (a pdf document).
