Survey Results from May's Seminar Are Now Available

On Monday, May 15, 2006, HERS at BSC held its first Leadership Institute Day.  Approximately 120 women and men from every division on campus attended the “Leading from Where You Are” program.  Survey results (pdf) from the participants are now available.

Metro South Chamber of Commerce honors Cathy Holbrook

June 15, 2006 - The Metro South Chamber of Commerce recognized five local women for their achievements. This year's nominees are Loretta DeGrazia, president and chief executive officer of East Coast Petroleum; Barbara Finkelstein, vice president of faculty and instruction at Massasoit Community College; Wendy Haynes, associate professor at Bridgewater State College; Catherine Holbrook, associate vice president for student affairs at Bridgewater State College, and Patricia Williams, senior vice president of human resources at HarborOne Credit Union. On Monday, May 15, 2006, HERS at BSC held its first Leadership Institute Day.  Approximately 120 women and men from every division on campus attended the “Leading from Where You Are” program. 

Dr. Helen Giles-Gee, president of Keene State College in New Hampshire, talked about leadership and her experiences as a woman leader.  President Emerita Adrian Tinsley spoke about the importance of reaching out to others to build leadership skills.  She told the audience gathered to “lift as you climb” and to not forget others as you rise in position.  President Mohler-Faria spoke about the opportunities, both current and future, for women at the college.  He stressed the importance of women’s leadership. 

Eight workshops were held during the day and focused on a variety of leadership issues ranging from emotional intelligence to diverse career paths.  These were all well attended and sparked lively conversation. 

One highlight of the day was the raffle with items generously donated by Nancy Moses (of Chico fame), Sodexho, Follett College Stores, Cathy Holbrook and others. 

Helena Santos, the incoming president of HERS at BSC, is to be congratulated for making the day a success.
