Group Insurance Commission (GIC)
If you are a BSU employee who is not eligible to enroll in health insurance through the Group Insurance Commission (GIC) and you are a Massachusetts resident, you can enroll in a Commonwealth Choice health plan through the Commonwealth Health Connector during the 45-day eligibility period following your hire date. There is also an open enrollment period held annually in May for coverage effective July 1 or August 1, depending on when you make your election within the month of May. Premiums will be deducted from your biweekly pay on a pre-tax, employee-pay-all basis. Contact the Health Connector for enrollment information at 877-623-6765 or online at http://www.MAhealthconnector.org. You will need to know the Employer Identification Number for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts - 149683. After you enroll, the Health Connector will notify the BSU Payroll Office to begin your biweekly premium deductions. It will usually take two pay periods to fully pay a monthÂ’s premium. Your coverage will begin on the first day of the month after which the full premium has been paid.
The Massachusetts Health Care Reform Act requires that employees who
are not enrolled in health insurance through their employer complete
a Health Insurance Responsibility Disclosure (HIRD) Form by July 1
of each year. Return the completed HIRD form to Jean Galego in the
Human Resources Office.
