Smoking Policy - Student Handbook - Bridgewater State College

Smoking Policy

Smoking is allowed only in designated areas at BSC.

Because of the health risks of second hand smoke, Bridgewater State College has prohibited smoking in all buildings on campus and in all state vehicles. To lessen the effects of second-hand smoke, individuals smoking outside of college buildings are prohibited from smoking within 25 feet of exterior entrances, operable windows or outdoor air-intakes.

This policy applies to all students, employees and visitors. Any employee or student who believes he or she is being subjected to secondhand smoke in violation of this policy should inform the smoker about this policy, and then request that the person smoke only in designated areas. If the smoker does not comply with the request, the violation should be reported to the department head or administrator of the building where the smoking took place, who is responsible for addressing the offending person or persons. Problems that cannot be resolved at that level should be referred to the vice president who oversees the department.
