ISS's Calendar of Events

Each semester, ISS organizes different events for international students:

World Café

International Student Services introduces World Café, a weekly event where students, staff, faculty and community members can meet and engage in informal learning opportunities. We collaborate with different departments on campus to bring you interesting food and conversation. All are welcome!

State House Visit

Each semester, ISS arranges for international students to visit the Massachusetts State House in Boston to meet with local legislators and learn more about the local government.

Into the Schools

BSU international students are valued guest speakers at different local schools where they talk to young students about life and culture in their home countries. This experience specially benefits international students who are studying to become teachers.

International Graduation & Farewell Celebration

Each semester, ISS bids farewell to our departing international and exchange students at the International Graduation and Farewell Celebration. Certificates are presented to graduating undergraduate and graduate students as well as to exchange students who have successfully completed their program at BSU.  Commemorative sashes are also presented to graduating students to wear at their commencement ceremony.

Phi Beta Delta

The Eta Nu Chapter of Phi Beta Delta, Honor Society for International scholars is coordinated by ISS. An induction ceremony is held each year during the spring semester where new members are inducted into this organization. Along with a celebration of cultures, this event is designed to recognize the international accomplishments of students, staff and faculty.

Whale Watch

Each year at the start of the fall semester, ISS organizes a whale watching trip. We go by bus to Plymouth from where we board a boat that takes us out onto the ocean. Observing these magnificent creatures is an amazing experience and highly recommended. Seats are limited, so international students are encouraged to contact ISS quickly to reserve a spot. Students are encouraged to dress in layers and to bring a warm, waterproof jacket. Sometimes the ocean can be bumpy and the sea spray can get you very wet! ISS will provide specific guidelines when appropriate. Be advised that this event can be rescheduled based on the weather.

International Culture Club Events

Culture Series: International and exchange students are invited to host a "Culture Series" presentation each semester. They generally give a 15-minute presentation about their home country and culture. Samples of typical or representative foods are presented towards the end of this event.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Halloween Party: The International Culture Club (ICC) raises funds for UNICEF a few times a year. With the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF event, international and exchange students have an opportunity to put on a fun costume on and experience the Halloween tradition!

International Coffee & Tea Party: During the International Education Week (mid-November), ICC hosts an "International Coffee & Tea Party" to showcase a wide range of coffee and tea from all over the world.

Thanksgiving Dinner: This is a very popular event where staff and faculty come together with students to talk about Thanksgiving. Traditional food is an important feature!

International Night: This is a big event. Students and professional performers (dance, music, etc.) present different aspects of world cultures along with and authentic international cuisine.

International Soccer Game & BBQ: During the week of Springfest, ICC will invite you to join us at one of the on campus soccer fields and play soccer with us! We will enjoy traditional American barbequed food at the field after the game.

End of Semester Potluck: Each semester ICC hosts the end of semester potluck. Instead of getting food from a vendor, students will cook and bring their cultural dishes to share with others.
