Harry the Dirty Dog (Brendan's retelling)
Setting:
Main Character: Harry, the dirty dog
Other Characters: The family: Mom, Dad, girl, boy
It takes place in a house, in a bathtub, in a yard and around town (* train place) and during the day.
Theme:
Harry doesn't like baths, but when he gets so dirty that no one recognizes him, he realizes the importance of taking one.
Plot Episodes:
· 1. Harry doesn't like to take baths and when he heard the running water he decided to hide the scrubbing brush in the backyard and run away from home.( * he didn't have to take a bath.)
· He played where they were fixing the street and he got dirty.
· 2. He played at the railroad yard and got dirty.
· 3. He played tag with the other dogs and got dirtier.
· Harry slid down the coal chute and got so dirty that he changed from a white dog with black spots to a black dog with white spots.
· He began to wonder if the family had missed him and he was hungry and tired so he headed home.
· 4. Harry got home and was in the yard but no one recognized him. (* People went outside)
· 5. He did his tricks to show them that he was Harry but they didn't believe that it was Harry.
· Harry was sad until he realized he had hid the scrubbing brush.
· 6. So he dug it up and ran into the house and up into the bathroom and jumped into the tub.
· 7. Harry begged for a bath and the girl and the boy gave him a bath.
· 8. It was one of the soapiest baths but it worked like magic! They recognized it was Harry.(* It's him!, it's him!)
· 9. They combed and brushed him and once again he became a white dog with black spots.
· 10. He went to sleep on his pillow with the scrub brush hidden underneath.
Resolution:
Although Harry needed a bath because he was so dirty, he still doesn't like taking a bath.
* Problem: dog runs away
*Solution: he comes back
