Doctor DeSoto (Nicholas's retelling)
Setting:
Characters: Dr. DeSoto, Mrs. DeSoto, (* his wife) animals, the fox. The story takes place at Dr. DeSoto's dentist office and at his house. It happens during the day and at night.
Theme:
Dr. DeSoto decides to fix the fox's tooth but knows that the fox might want to eat him.
Plot Episodes:
· 1. Dr. DeSoto is a dentist who takes care of many different types of animals both large and small. (mule or donkey, pig, cow). (* customers)
· He did not take care of animals that would harm mice especially cats.
· 2. One day Dr. DeSoto and his wife were looking out the window and noticed a fox with a terrible toothache. (* rang buzzer 2 times)
· After thinking about what to do the DeSotos decided to let the fox in.
· Dr. DeSoto checks the fox's tooth which was rotten and he had bad breath. The tooth had to come out.
· The fox thought that the dentist would be tasty and his jaw quivered while Dr. DeSoto was in his mouth.
· They gave the fox gas and while he was dreaming the fox talked about how tasty the mice would be.
· Dr. DeSoto yanked the tooth out, put some gauze in the fox's mouth because it was bleeding and told the fox to return at 11am sharp the next morning.
· While walking home the fox was thinking about eating the mice.
· That night Dr. DeSoto was worried about the fox eating them and when he couldn't sleep he thought of a plan to make sure the fox didn't eat them. Then they went to sleep.
· The fox returns the next morning very happy.
· 3. They put the gold tooth in the fox's mouth. Meanwhile the fox is thinking about eating the mice.
· 4. Dr. DeSoto offers the fox a brand new product (* formula) that will get rid of his toothaches forever.
· 5. The fox agrees to have it put on his teeth. The fox closes is mouth and his teeth were stuck together.
· The fox won't be able to open his mouth for a day or 2.
· 6.The fox leaves the dentist office without eating the mice.
· 6. (* Dr. DeSoto and his wife kissed each other on the stairs).
Resolution:
Dr. DeSoto was able to fix the fox's tooth without getting eaten. Dr. DeSoto outfoxed (tricked) the fox. (* glued teeth together)
* Problem:fox came and sign said no foxes allowed because they might eat the mouse.
* Student added text to the retelling. The numbers in red represent the order the story was retold.
