The Big Orange Splot (Nicholas's retelling)
Setting:
Characters: Mr. Plumbean, Mr. Plumbean's neighbors
It takes place in Mr. Plumbean's neighborhood at night and during the day.
Theme:
Mr. Plumbean paints his house differently from the rest of the neighbors to show the kind of person he is. (* Houses can't be the same because a kid can't find their way home.)
Plot Episodes:
· 1. A seagull drops a can of paint (* orange) over Mr. Plumbean's house.
· 2. Mr. Plumbean painted his house many different colors. (* house of his dreams). It looked like a rainbow. His neighbors thought that he lost his mind.
· The next night he built a clock tower.
· His neighbors were not very happy with the way his house looked.
· Mr. Plumbean added palm trees, a hammock and even an alligator.
· 3. One of his neighbors went over to his house to talk to him about changing his house back so it would match the other houses in the neighborhood.
· The man instead changed his house to look like a ship.
· 4. Each night different people would sit and talk to Mr. Plumbean and then they would go home and change their house to fit their own dreams.
Resolution:
The street had houses that looked like the people's dreams and they were proud of their houses. The story ends with each house was designed to reflect the dreams of the owner.
*Problem: The big blob was on there.
*Solution: He painted it and the big blob looked like the sun.
*Student added in during his retelling. The numbers in red represent the order the story was retold.
