Assessments of Student Progress (Triangulation)
The students in the focus group were evaluated on their progress through three different types of assessments:
Students
were responsible for completing learning logs and graphic organizers that showed cognitive
progress using the reciprocal teaching method. These graphic organizers
were graded on a rubric and compared to the original base line.
Students
were asked to evaluate their own progress in comprehension by completing a
self-evaluation sheet. Students also recorded their thoughts on each
strategy to reflect on its value to them as a reader.
Teacher-created
assessment (multiple choice questions - both narrative and expository) and
observations of daily use (both in a cooperative an independent setting)
