"Efforts to teach reading and writing together, or to instructionally enhance both through a focus on the knowledge and processes shared across reading and writing , have led to the development of some very useful instructional methods.  It is important for teachers to understand that these techniques are effective to the extent that they take advantage of the cognitive and linguistic similarities of reading and writing."
