Results Related to Theories

The results relate back to the studies done by Eckhoff, Barrs, Shanahan & Lomax, and Tierney & Soter et al.  Echoff (1993) and Barrs (2000) examined the reading-writing connection, which supported the fact that reading influenced writing. Shanahan & Lomax (1986, 1988) studies analyzed three theoretical models of the reading-writing relationship and the results revealed the importance of reading knowledge in writing and writing knowledge in reading which supported the integration of reading and writing. Tierney & Soter et al. (1989) study on the effects of reading and writing upon thinking critically presented a view that reading and writing in combination have the potential to contribute to critically thinking skills.
