In the analysis of the influence of reading professional book reviews improving students written responses to children's literature, students' written book reviews revealed a correlation between the components included in a professional book review and their own written book reviews. Through the reading response writing of book reviews, students presented writing that included the writing style of a professional book review. The students' book reviews were succinct and persuasive. Through writing book reviews each student developed a personal relationship with each children's literature book. Writing a book review demanded that the students summarize, interpret, and evaluate their reading in order to write their experiences with the literature. The students' book review responses were written with genuine honesty and critiqued the quality of children's literature. Writing a review influenced the students to think beyond themselves and consider the effect the book will have on other readers. The results found when students examined professional book reviews; it influenced their individual responses to the literary works. Reading professional book reviews aided the students' progress as writers.
