Abstract: This website discusses the importance of vocabulary instruction within a balanced reading program, significance of fostering an environment that promotes word consciousness and reviews current research of most effective instruction for vocabulary acquisition.  A study investigates two interventions (word wall and word mapping) with three struggling readers.    Data is collected and analyzed through the use of triangulation : teacher -made tests, self-reflection,  student survey and writing samples.  Vignettes present lesson examples within the classroom.
