Background

Welcome to my exemplary literacy practices in vocabulary instruction website. This website was designed to provide teachers current research information, examples of lessons and action research involving vocabulary instruction.

I am currently a special needs/ Title One teacher for three fourth grade classrooms. Differentiated instruction is implemented in these classrooms allowing me to work with various small reading groups (guided reading, direct instruction, modeling of strategies are all examples of practices that take place in these small reading groups) . I have over eleven years of experience teaching at different grade levels . I received my BS in Elementary Education from Salve Regina College, Newport, RI in 1987. After three years of teaching (multi-grades 3/4 and multi-grades 5/6) I took time off to raise my two children. During this time I entered the masters program in special education at Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, MA . When my youngest child turned four I returned back to work as a special education assistant in a third grade classroom. One year later I became a sixth grade special education teacher. Within this position I worked with small reading and math groups in and out of the classroom. I finished my masters program in 2000 and entered the CAGS program at Bridgewater State College in 2001.
