Assessment

To examine the effect of my intervention, I applied the triangulation of assessment theory.  I asked my subjects about their experiences with the transactional strategies instruction through a survey. Also, my research colleague and I made observations and recorded those observations on a researcher-developed checklist. I analyzed the subjects’ responses by examining the products for the TSI reading comprehension areas of prediction, questioning, visualization, and summarization.

Validity

The triangulation of assessment theory was a valid measure of the effects of my intervention on my students. First, I obtained permanent products from the responses to the TSI intervention from my students.  Second, an associate and I completed an observational checklist. Third, my students completed a survey on their reactions to transactional strategies instruction. The TSI guide sheet and response journal were long-lasting products and did not have to be analyzed immediately. Given additional time for evaluation, I feel my research would be accurate and reliable.

Analyzing Data

The data obtained from the multiple-baseline-across-behaviors design was analyzed by focusing on the baseline responses and the responses from the transactional strategies instruction intervention. I evaluated the relationship of the independent and dependent variables to explore the changes in my subjects. The data showed my students developed an ownership of TSI, and used these strategies to help them understand the text. The data from each area of transactional strategies instruction was graphed.
