I used the multiple-baseline-across-behaviors experimental design to analyze the effectiveness of transactional strategies instruction to increase reading comprehension of my elementary students. The multiple-baseline-across-behaviors design allowed me to investigate my study without withdrawing the interventions. I hoped my students would continue to become better learners during my research.

Procedures

With the multiple-baseline-across-behaviors design, a baseline was established for all targeted behaviors on reading comprehension strategies. All baselines for prediction, questioning, visualization, and summarization began at the same time. Once a stable baseline was leveled, the first intervention was conducted. The second intervention was applied when it was shown that a positive response had been made from the first intervention. Next, the third intervention was applied when a positive response had been made from the second intervention. The final invention was applied when it was evident that a positive response had been made from the third intervention.

A fellow researcher conducted reliability checks for both the dependent and independent variables. Once this step had been completed, I collected and graphed the data. There was a separate graph for each dependent variable and subject.
