Picture Rhymes

Concentration Game

The pictures used to make the Concentration cards for this game were copied from the book, Phonemic Awareness Activities for Early Reading Success by Wiley Blevins, Scholastic Professional Books (1997).

Objective:              To use picture cards in a way that enhances students' sense of rhyme.

Materials:                24 picture cards depicting rhyming word pairs

Activity:                  Preview the rhyming pairs on the picture cards with the students.  Shuffle the cards and arrange face down.  The student whose turn is first flips over two picture cards.  If the cards rhyme, the student keeps the pair and continues with his/her turn.  If no match, play continues to the next player.  When all the rhyming pairs have been matched, the player with the most rhyming pairs is declared the winner.
