Lesson Plan  - Phoneme Deletion

Take It Away

Like the Activity “Add It On”, this oral activity can be practiced with students at almost any time. It is a great activity to fill up “down time” such as waiting in line for lunch or while waiting for the bus.

Objective:         To provide students with the opportunity to practice the task of phoneme deletion.

Materials:        Word Lists

                        Class Puppet (optional)

Activity:           Tell the children to say a word.  Ask them to say a word again, but this time they are to delete a phoneme.

                        For example:

                        Teacher:   “Say stop.”

                        Students:  “Stop.”

Teacher:   “Now say stop without the /s/.”

                        Students:  “Top”.
