Lesson Plan – Phoneme Identity

Find Your Partners

This lesson plan was developed by Hallie Kay Yopp and Ruth Helen Yopp.  It appears in The Reading Teacher, 54 (2) October, 2000.

Objective:   To help students recognize the same sounds in different

                   words.

Materials:    Picture cards of objects with which students are familiar.

Each card must have a match that begins, ends, or has the

same sound in the medial position.

Activity:    Decide the targeted position of the sounds.  Provide

students with the appropriate cards.  When given the

signal, students circulate and find a classmate whose card

shares the sound in the targeted position.  Redistribute

                   the cards.  Repeat the activity.
