Prize Rhyming Game

The board for this game was taken
from the book, Phonemic Awareness Activities for Early Reading Success by
Wiley Blevins, Scholastic Professional Books, (1997).
Objective:
To
enhance students' sensitivity to the detection of rhyme.
Materials:
Game board (pp52-53).
Dice
Place markers
Activity:
The student whose turn is first rolls dice and moves the appropriate
number of spaces. To remain on the
space, the student must produce a rhyming word to match the picture on the
space. If a match is made,
the student is allowed to remain on the space.
If no match is made, the student is not allowed to remain on the space.
He/She must move back to where he/she started before rolling the dice. The
player who reaches the finish line first is the winner.
Assessment: Test for rhyme detection and rhyme production.
