Stopping Woods on a Snowy Evening

Objective:      To promote students' attention to rhyme by engaging them in the shared reading of rhyming texts. 

Materials:         Book: Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost. 

Activity:           Preview the book with the students via a picture walk.  Encourage the students to make predictions. Read the text and draw the students' attention to the beautiful language and rhyming words of the text.  Reread the text, employing a cloze procedure to see if the students can complete the rhyme. 

Assessment:        Record student response on the assessment sheet.
