Mastering Rhyme Through Literature

 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving

Objective:       To promote students' attention to rhyme by engaging them in the shared reading of rhyming texts.

Materials:           Book:  ‘Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving by Dav Pilkey, Orchard Books, 1990.

Activity:                 Preview the book with the students via a picture walk.

                              Encourage students to make predictions.  Read the text and draw student's attention to the beautiful language  and the rhyming words.   Reread the text employing a cloze procedure to see if the students can complete the rhyme.

Assessment:            Record student responses on an assessment sheet.
