Summary of Findings on

 Phonemic Awareness

 

Phonemic Awareness can be taught and learned.

Phonemic Awareness  taught with letters was more effective than Phonemic Awareness taught without letters.

Teaching one or two Phonemic Awareness skills was more effective than teaching three or more .

Thirty minute instructional sessions for a total of five to eighteen hours proved to be the most effective.

Computers are an effective tool to use in Phonemic Awareness Instruction.

Phonemic Awareness Instruction is most effective with pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and at-risk students.
