Abstract
Oral language techniques including shared reading (teacher and class reading together), choral reading (children reading together as a group), partner reading (two children reading together), discussion following a story, and music (chanting and singing songs and other printed material) were used to introduce children to literacy. An alternating design with an initial baseline and a final treatment phase was used to determine if the addition of music (chanting, singing, and the use of a djembe drum) would have a positive effect on the literacy development of kindergarten children.
