SUMMER 2006

As you plan for summer courses, please be aware that the second floor of Maxwell Library (including the Educational Resources Center) will be undergoing extensive renovations from May 22 through September 5. The second and third floors will be closed to the public, which means that most of the books and other resources located on those floors will have to be retrieved by Library staff. The first floor and the ground floor will be open throughout the renovation. All services, collections, workstations and group study rooms located on the first floor will be available for use. Let me briefly summarize how we are planning to accommodate the students, faculty, visiting lecturers and staff.
- Christine Brown, Joanne Machnik and Brenda Carr (who work in the Educational Resources Center) will be relocated to Maxwell room 111
- Chris, Joanne and Brenda will keep their current telephone numbers and email addresses throughout the summer
- MA frameworks, test preparations, and the ERC reference collection will be moved temporarily to the first floor
- Education Resources Center (ERC) general collection materials will be moved temporarily to the first floor
- K-12 textbooks, children's fiction and children's picture books will be moved temporarily to the first floor
- The ERIC microfiche will be moved permanently into room 124 (with the Library's other microfiche and microfilm collections)
- The Kraus Curriculum Development Library and the Tests in Microfiche collections will be moved permanently into room 124
- The (intelligence and psychological) test collections will be temporarily housed in room 111
- The instructional aid kits and other ERC materials will be moved temporarily to the third floor, which will make retrieving them easier for Library staff
- Chris, Joanne and Brenda will still offer ALL of the services and programs associated with the Library's educational resources such as bibliographic instruction sessions, reference and research assistance, introduction to the various library resources and tools available for use, database instruction, information discovery assistance, etc.
- All other collections on the second and third floors will have to be retrieved by Library staff on a 24 hour notification system (just like last summer)
Chris, Joanne and Brenda will move into room 111 on May 15. Starting April 18, the ERC collections noted above will be moved to the first floor. That particular process should take about two weeks. We will have signs posted throughout the building; community announcements will be posted and messages sent to all students.
Once the renovation is complete, you and your students will be amazed at the transformation. The Educational Resources Center will be bright, open, and an active learning space. There will be additional classrooms and the Office of Undergraduate Research will be next to the Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects.
