Grades 3-5 Contest

           

This year, the Grades 3-5 Contest will focus on different creative and artist methods of expression, instead of being confined to written essays only.  THE STUDENT OR STUDENTS WHO SUBMIT AN ENTRY SHOULD FOCUS ON THE GRADE-APPROPRIATE QUESTION BELOW.  Entries may be submitted either by individual students or by groups of students in collaboration (up to 5 students may work on one entry together).  The student entries may take one of several artist forms:

 

·         Individuals or groups may submit collages of original art or magazine cutouts or other pictures/images -11 inches X 17 inches is the recommended size, but any size will be accepted;

·         Individuals or groups may submit plays or skits - either written as a manuscript or performed and recorded; these may be submitted on paper, or, if performed and recorded, may be submitted on CDs, DVDs, flash drives, or VHS videotapes;

·         Individuals or groups may submit poetry originally written by a student or students;

·         Individuals or groups may submit drawings, sculptures, or paintings

 

** Please note: A written paragraph must be submitted to describe the artwork.

 

Entries may be submitted either as a group (up to 5 students), or on an individual basis.  Schools may sponsor one submission or many; there is no per-school limit. 

 

*Although the process should be adult guided, it should not be adult produced.

 

 

For your entry, please focus on the Question for your grade:

Grade 3: What kinds of bullying have you seen in your school?

Grade 4: How can you help when you see bullying?

Grade 5: How does it make you feel when you do the right thing when you see bullying?

 

 

 

How will the entries be judged?  The judges will utilize the following Criteria for Judging:

  1. Insightfulness:  How insightful is the student in their response to the Question posed? 
  2. How the writing corresponds with the artwork:  How well does the explanatory paragraph correspond with the submission?
  3. Creativity.  How creative is the submission? 

 

All entries must be submitted by January 28, 2008

 

Award letters will be sent out on March 4, 2008

 

The award ceremony will be held on March 18, 2008
