In his career as a professor of geology and oceanography Richard Little has become known as "the Connecticut Valley Geologist", He has made enormous contributions to the community as an educator at Greenfield Community College, as an author of many publications, and as an active and concerned citizen serving on committees and boards. Dick has served as regional president of the New England Division of the National Association of Geoscience Teachers and has presented many workshops to teachers at all levels. His nomination reads, "Dick's intelligence, humor, and joy in teaching shine through in every project he undertakes, every class he teaches, every field trip he leads...he is a consummate educator".
