College Hosts Domestic Violence Program

More than 50 people attended "Violence in the Workplace," a conference held last Thursday in Crimson Hall and sponsored by the Bridgewater Coalition Against Community Violence and BSC's Office of College and Community Partnerships.

In attendance were representatives from the Brockton Police Department, Old Colony Elderly Services, and the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, as well as area business owners, and BSC students and faculty.

Bridgewater Police Chief George Gurley said, "Domestic violence is an important issue, not only in the workplace but every place. It is our top priority as police and as citizens to do everything we can to decrease the number of domestic violence incidents."

Also attending the conference were Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz and Anne Shuster, a domestic violence officer with the Bridgewater Police, who is also president of the coalition.

Sessions held during the conference included: Workplace Violence as a Business Issue; The Cycle of Violence; Power and Control; Obstacles to Leaving; and Legal Liabilities.
