Two Chinese scholars were on campus recently to mark the signing of an exchange agreement with their home institution, Beijing Jiaotong University.
Drs Liping Dai and
Xiaoyan Liu spent part of their time at BSC visiting classes, and made a presentation to members of the BSC cabinet. Saying that "BJTU" also has its own commuter rail stop and an east side of campus, Dr. Liu said, "This is why I feel so close to Bridgewater."
BJTU was founded in 1896, and sits on 2 million square feet, with additional space for residence halls. While here, Prof. Dai delivered a lecture titled "Chinese Views of the United States."
The new agreement marks the second Chinese university to enter into an exchange arrangement with BSC. Plans are already being made to have five students from "BJTU" spend a semester in Bridgewater, said
Professor Wing-kai To, chairman of BSC's Asian Studies Program, who has worked with the Division of External Affairs and the Office of International Programs to forge exchange agreements with institutions across Asia.
Last year, BSC signed an agreement with Hong Kong Institute of Education. This year, BSC
President Dana Mohler-Faria signed an agreement with Shanghai Normal University. Next fall, BSC is expecting about a half dozen students from China and five students from Hong Kong. (Story and photos by John Winters, Office of Institutional Communications)
