Officials from the college and the city of New Bedford were on hand Thursday, April 9, at the city's regional airport for the official ribbon cutting ceremony launching BSC's flight training center.

The facility will house the college's training aircraft, flight simulators and classrooms.

President Dana Mohler-Faria said the college having its own flight training school brings with it many benefits.

It has "created the opportunity for our students and faculty to experience the aviation program in a totally different way," he said, adding that it "ensures that the quality of what we do here in our aviation program will continue to grow and develop."

New Bedford Mayor Scott Lang said the new facility presented "a great opportunity for the young people of this region to be trained in a field that we believe has tremendous growth potential."

Among the speakers at the ceremony were BSC Trustee Chairman Louis Ricciardi, '81, and U.S. Rep. Barney Frank. The accompanying video includes their comments and other highlights from the ceremony. (Story and video by John Winters; photos by Karen Callan -- Office of Institutional Communications)
