The Bridgewater Coalition Against Community Violence held a conference focusing on abuse of the elderly and disabled earlier this month in the Dunn Conference Suite in Crimson Hall.
Representatives from the Brockton Police, Old Colony Elderly Services, Massachusetts Department of Corrections and area businesses, as well as Bridgewater students and faculty, attended the event.
Topics discussed included an overview of abuse, reporting guidelines, legal remedies, court proceedings and warning signs.
Bridgewater Police Chief
George Gurley welcomed participants to the event, while Plymouth County Sheriff
Joseph McDonald said that as funding shrinks it is even more important to get the word out about the programs offered to the elderly and disabled populations in need of help..
The conference was a partnership with the Office of College and Community Partnerships at Bridgewater State College and the Bridgewater Coalition Against Community Violence. (Story and photo submitted)
