African Drumming Ensemble

Bridgewater -- Khakatay, Bridgewater State College's West African Drumming Ensemble, will perform on Thursday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Boyden Hall's Horace Mann Auditorium on the campus of Bridgewater State College.

Khakatay performs traditional repertoire, mainly from the West African countries of Guinea, Senegal, Mali and the Ivory Coast. Traditional rhythms used for various festivities and social occasions constitute the body of Khakatay's performing material. However, the ensemble continually seeks to move in new directions as well by incorporating instruments and stylistic elements from various parts of the world.
