Members of the college's Program Committee brought home the "Excellence in Programming Award" from the regional conference of the National Association for Campus Activities, held from Nov. 6-9 in Hartford Conn.
NACA, an organization dedicated to the advancement of campus activities at higher education institutions, presents the coveted award each year to a programming board that demonstrates outstanding management of student programming initiatives on campus.
This is the first year Bridgewater has earned the award.
At the conference,
Laura Scalley,'09,
Carina Lahens,'10, and
Rachel Freedenberg,'11, presented a slideshow outlining five popular programs the committee has implemented, how they are budgeted, and what makes them unique. Highlighted in the presentation were the bingo series, cultural cafes, student spotlights, Homecoming and Springfest, and a new student-retention program.
"I am thrilled the program committee won such a prestigious award," said Ms. Scalley "We put so much time into perfecting our events so they cater to our campus' needs."
Competition was stiff, with large institutions including the University of New Hampshire and University of Connecticut gunning for the prize, both of which generally receive more funding for campus activities.
Speaking on behalf of the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, Director
Cindy Kane expressed her pride in the committee's win.
"As a department, we are so proud that NACA chose to recognize the members of this group for all of their intensive time and effort to develop campus life," she said. (Rob Matheson, Office of Institutional Communications)
